Campfire Rules
Prior to any fire event, adult den leaders and Pack 29
leaders need to have information about emergency contacts for any medical
emergency or fire control emergency. This includes telephone contacts, and the
need of having telephone access at any fire event.
If there are any injuries sustained on den outings, or
campouts, there needs to be notification made to den leaders, Cubmaster, and
Pack committee chairman. Immediate emergency care should be rendered by the
responsible adults in attendance.
No fires can be constructed and lit at any Pack 29 event
or den function without adult leader supervision. If a fire is built, at least
two adults must declare that they have responsibility for it, and must
constantly attend to it, and put it out at the end. No fire shall be left
unattended.
Fires may be built ideally in a fire box or iron kettle,
or there can be made a fire ring of stones marking the outer boundary of the
fire. Fires should be placed in open spaces, and not next to small brush or
trees. There must be handy a way to extinguish the fire, whether a water source,
sand, or fire extinguisher. Adults supervising the fire have the ultimate
responsibility to insure the fires have been completely put out.
Fires may be started using kindling wood, treated logs,
lint, steel wool, cotton or paper products. Absolutely no gasoline, kerosene,
white gas, Coleman fuel, lighter fluid, or any liquid or gas flammable may be
used!
Den leaders and adults should review with their cub scouts
about fire safety rules prior to and during any fire events. No one may poke
sticks in and out of the fire ring. Once a stick has been inside the fire ring,
it must stay in the fire ring. No horseplay is allowed, in the vicinity of a
fire.
